Sundquist Wildlife Management Area

Sundquist WMA is managed by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. The land is used for hunting, ATV riding, hiking, bird watching and elk viewing.

A portion of the 300-mile Cumberland Trail runs through the 73,000-acre management area. Two other WMAs, Royal Blue and Brimstone, adjoin this land.

More than 200 elk have been reintroduced to this region since 2000. Wildlife experts hope the herd will expand to a population of 1,400 to 2,000 in the next 30 years.

A wildlife viewing platform is located on Hatfield Knob.

Directions:

Hatfield Knob can be reached by driving north from LaFollette on Highway 25W. Go about seven miles to the top of the mountain and turn left at the red gate. This gate is just before the road starts to go down the back side of the mountain. Continue on the gravel road approximately 3.1 miles. At the fork in the road go right and continue about 1.4 miles to the parking area.
